This would be so great if it's true. Though I don't have Showtime, but there's always itunes videos and dvd's. Hope it happens b/c this is the greatest comedy going.

Not the most well written article certainly (could have used a grammar lesson), but it brings up an issue that is on my mind. For those outside of Orlando this will mean little, but it deals with an area about 5 minutes from our house. I really want to know the thoughts of the Hannibal Square community. Do they feel forced out? Are they happy about the changes? I should probably find out rather than just blogging about it. Enjoy the article.

I was given this devotional and it has proven to be quite good. Basically it pulls a quote or two from Ellul and then the devotional writer (Charles Ringma) expounds on the thought. I especially loved today's thoughts on the topic of "Change." So much so that I am copying it here for you so enjoy...
CHANGE
Change can only occur when new possibilities are envisaged and embraced
Personal change does not occur easily. We seem to hold onto the old and familiar, even when that may be hurting us. Thus, pressure or difficulty of itself is usually not sufficient to bring about lasting change. Something more is needed. Ellul speaks of the "changing of man in the presence of God's promise." In this, he points to the power of the new that draws us forward into new ways of being and acting.
Because God's promise is never an empty word but can accomplish what it envisages, it is a power that sustains us in the journey toward the promised goal. So the key to the change process is being empowered to move forward.
Because the Holy Spirit is the One called to our side, we can gain hope int eh midst of doubt, strength when we are weak, courage when we are fearful, and perseverance when we feel like giving up.
ACTION
While change may have its genesis when we are dislocated or vulnerable, depend on a vision of the new and on God's power to sustain you on the way in order to progress.
I can't really add much to that. I'll leave it alone in hopes that it encourages you as it did me today.
Though I didn't get to hear him live, Donald Miller spoke last Sunday night at Status in Orlando. The podcast is now available and to save you from having to search for it I have made it available here. I have listened to all but the last 10 minutes of it thus far. Very good. Speaks like he writes. In some ways he's preaching to the choir, but it is good nonetheless. Enjoy.

Just in case you care, or in case you need some mindless "surfing" to occupy your time you can check out my latest website creations.
The first is a site I did for my dad and his new book
randalldhart.com
The second is a site I did for the student ministry of Orangewood. It is a resource site for leaders and parents.

Two files you should check out. The first is the Relevant Magazine podcast featuring Derek Webb. Webb performs a couple of his songs from his latest album "Mockingbird" and talks about inspiration of the songs, etc. Worth a listen. Download podcast
The second is a live recording of a new David Wilcox song he performed at The Grove this past summer. Feels apropos. This is not exactly legal, but enjoy it nonetheless. Download 04_train_station.m4a
Peace.
The latest Nooma offering is now available and it's entitled MATTHEW. Watched it last night and it did not disappoint. It deals with the topic of death and the ancient Jewish practice of "sitting shivah." Well worth the price. You can find out more info by clicking here.
I am posting a slideshow of our trip to Idaho. You will need the free Quicktime player in order to view. You can get the LATEST software by clicking here. The file is about 10mb. If you right click the file below you can download to your computer permanently by clicking "save target as" or "save as". Enjoy.
Idaho was absolutely amazing. First time out West certainly did not disaapoint. The conditions could not have been better. The accomodations could not have been better either. Lots of time with family. Lots of time for Heather and I. Lots of reading by the fire (more comments soon about the latest book). Making a new friend in Johnny (see cigar pics in the Idaho collection). Many moments just standing in awe of creation and the Creator... and I thought North Carolina was beautiful.
However, entering back into reality is always tough, especially when it is rainy and muggy the first 36 hours you are home. But this afternoon the cold front moved in (by Florida standards). We set out for the lake with the Sweet's. Always a good time hanging out with our good friends and letting the 4-legged children play. Getting out was just what I needed. Here's a little video clip of the dogs which allowed me to test out our new digital camera.
Lastly, it has been so good to be back with our girl Sydnie! She is exhausting and we definitely rested in Idaho, but we sure missed her! Her very presence is life-giving. She's just flat out fun.
Thanks for your prayers...my dad is out of the hospital! Heart should be alright with some diet changes, exercise, etc. I'll let him give you the details if you want. We are all very relieved. Now on to some other news...my dad's first book is published and available online. You can purchase on Amazon by clicking here. You should definitley check it out, particularly if you are involved in education.
More blogging to come about our trip to Idaho and many more pics.
I have been fascinated with a book entitled THE RISE OF THE CREATIVE CLASS by Richard Florida. In it he is charting the growth of certain cities based on their ability to draw the "creative class." Mark Driscoll recommended this book in addressing church planters. The rationale being that the church planters should target areas listed in Florida's book because these are the places of culture makers. Affect the culture makers for Jesus and you change the culture. So it's got me looking up countless cities seeing which one's rank the hightest and who might be in need of a church plant. Orlando ranks okay, but places like Austin, Seattle and Raleigh are off the charts.
I've digressed. I am posting a link to a podcast featuring a lecture by Richard Florida. Though it is dealing specifically with his thoughts about Pittsburgh (he is a professor at Carnegie-Mellon), it is interesting nonetheless. You can pick up on his general thought it seems without wading through his writings (though I do recommend the book). Enjoy.
